Performing Arts

If Hollywood is a movie town, then Chicago is a theater town.

Chicago Theater
More than 120 theaters operate throughout the city, in storefronts and in majestic 3,000-seat auditoriums. They present pioneering works of experimental playwrights as well as the powerful dramas of Shakespeare at the renowned Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pier, just a 15-minute walk from the north end of the Cultural Mile.

The Cultural Mile has its share of theaters with the Millennium Park Harris Theater, a few blocks south are Roosevelt University's magnificently refurbished Auditorium Theatre, and the Symphony Center home to the world famous Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Add DePaul University's Merle Reskin Theater and Columbia College Chicago's Getz Theater and there are constant cultural events year-round.

Close — less than three blocks away from Millennium Park — convenient to dining and an evening of enjoyment, is Chicago's famed Theater District featuring the landmark Chicago Theater, as well as the Ford Center for the Performing Arts/Oriental Theatre, the Cadillac Palace , and the LaSalle Bank Theatres.

Also In the heart of this district is the Goodman Theater, one of the nation's outstanding regional theaters. The Goodman produces classic and contemporary works and offers full voice to a wide range of contemporary artists and visions.
